I think it’s one of the self-balancing events of the world when artists go ahead and make art about major issues. A cool song, whether or not you agree with its ahem...rather political content.

Those of us in America, you should go see Jonh K Samson. In honor of those of us who may never be able to

Anti- has one of the best artist rosters of any label out there right now, and I’d put Chicago’s Bloodshot Records right next to ‘em.

Horses for courses I guess, I don’t know most of those. But Kate Bush and Billy Bragg are big names.

I didn’t realize Kate Bush was still making music! At her peak, she was far bigger in Europe than in the US. I’ve enjoyed a couple of her records, but much of what I’ve heard from her is not for me. Billy Bragg is a treasure, and I’ve enjoyed the hell out of seeing him perform over the years.

Wilco & Tom Waits are probably two of the biggest names currently on Anti-, but I’d recommend the label just as strongly even if Neko Case was their sole artist - she’s been one of my favorites since the first time I heard her, 20-something years ago, and she’s fucking flat out incredible .

I know almost nothing about her. Just a song or two, and a band I like who think she’s an absolute goddess haha. I know a song by a local band that refers to Billy Bragg.

I know of Wilco and Tom Waits, the latter only because he made a song called “The Fall of Troy”, so the band The Fall of Troy made a song called “Tom Waits”.

Funny! I’ve never heard of the band Fall of Troy, but that’s a great Waits tune.

Billy Bragg & Wilco made two albums together in the late ‘90s/2000, Mermaid Avenue & Mermaid Ave Vol. 2 - they’re all songs by Woody Guthrie. Both excellent, and you don’t need to know anything about Guthrie to appreciate them.
